The Literature Award

Elaine Feeney is an Irish author and poet who creates powerful and thought-provoking literary works. Her poetry and prose often explore themes of social justice, feminism, and the human experience, which was perfectly captured in her first novel As You Were – a landmark piece of writing, winning the Dalkey Book Festival’s Emerging Writer Prize, The Kate O’Brien Prize, the Society of Authors McKitterick Prize, and was shortlisted for Novel of the Year at the Irish Book Awards.
While her poetry continues to receive critical acclaim, her second novel, published in April of this year, saw the author longlisted for the Booker Prize. How To Build A Boat has built on the success of As You Were, reaching a new audience and gathering widespread acclaim. A rare book that leaves you feeling less lonely, other Booker winners have lavished it with praise, describing it as, “A gorgeous gift of a novel, hopeful and full of humanity.”
